Law Firm Marketing Tips.
Successful marketing is critical to starting a successful law firm. Marketing is a dirty word seldom used in law school. However, lawyers are constantly marketing and have done so in one fashion or another.
Marketing takes many forms, some recognized as such and some forms that are not recognized as marketing at all. For example, lawyers publishing law review articles are clearly marketing their skill and knowledge— but would probably deny they are “marketing.” But it is true, nonetheless. Lawyers who write law review or bar journal articles are attempting to demonstrate to the legal community that they have the skill and experience to handle client matters relating to the issues addressed in the articles. A tax attorney who publishes an article on the dischargeability of income taxes in bankruptcy is clearly marketing the lawyer’s expertise on that topic. Similarly, lawyers who speak at bar association CLE seminars are marketing. Lawyers who send newsletters to clients and prospective clients are clearly marketing too. Marketing is everywhere, but lawyers are slow to acknowledge it.
Take the course and learn about marketing with websites, blogs, on-line referral services, direct mail, newsletters, and of-counsel and coverage work.
